There is a movement called “The Buy-Nothing Movement.” You can buy the book (the irony!) or get it from the library, borrow it from a friend, or just do what I am about to tell you in the next paragraph.
The lifestyle has a list of rules to it. But if you want the bare basics here it is: any time you need something, instead of buying it new, go onto a local Buy Nothing group and ask for it. Have something to give away? Give it away on Buy Nothing. Here is the only catch: it is a Facebook group. I know this can be polarizing, and I understand even the creators of the Buy Nothing world don’t love that this is the platform it exists on, but they haven’t found a better way..yet! The groups are hyper-local. Just do a FB search in your area and join-away!
Give, receive, lend, share, and show gratitude in hyper-local gift economies, where the true wealth is the connections between real neighbors. Please no posting of outside links. Links to another post within the group is allowed. Link to Rules: https://buynothingproject.org/10-rules/
Let’s build that bridge,
Rebecca
Hi Rebecca, we belong to the Buy Nothing Group here in Allen, Texas. It works well for giving and receiving!
What a good tip ! Carol
